Installing on Joomla 1.5 (Instructions for Joomla 1.6 Scroll Down)
1) Grab the module from my downloads section (save it somewhere safe) and in your administrator section click on Extensions then Install/Uninstall
2) Browse for where you saved the zip file select it and then click Upload and Install button
3) If all has worked, you should see the following screen (or one fairly similar) ...

(screenshots are from my old website - www.givemeajobsoicanmovetocanada.co.uk)
4) To Set up the Module - click on Extensions then Module Manager

5) In the -Select Type- Dropdown look for and select mod_custom_transparent_yahoo_status

6) To edit the module, click on the text link (as below)

7) You should see something similar to the following (I'm still using XP so I'm guessing this will look swisher for you guys with different OS) ...

8) I won't spend time explaining the positions and the publishing of the module ... lets look at what you can set up on the module, nothing fancy here just a simple layout option and your Yahoo! Messenger ID ...

Decide if you want the module centered, left justified or right justified (I tend to put these in as my status modules get used on side columns mostly and it gives you a little more control over layout without taxing my brain too much! I'm happy to help out with a bit more styling if you require it) ...
9) This bit is optional ... sometimes you want a little bit of text before your button ...

... if so, pop it in here (you can add HTML if you like)
10) Oh, just realised I messed up the language files for the following parameter :( ... this will be sorted out in the zip file, but for the time being, take my word for it, you can add text 'after' your button in this parameter :)

11) Put your Messenger ID in here - this is your screen name - please change it from mine :)

12) Make sure you have published the module, and chosen the positions and pages you want the module published to, then click Save

13) Navigate to where you published the module and check to see if it worked!

... obviously you will need to change your Yahoo! Messenger status to check this ... unlike Skype, I don't think there is anywhere you need to 'allow' 3rd Party access to your status, so the module should work 'out of the box', but if anybody finds a problem, let me know!
The buttons above are customised for my website - the ones in the downloadable zip are more generic ...

... but also transparent png's so they can fit nicely in templates with coloured backgrounds etc ...
If you want to create and use your own png's then you need to create 2 images an offline.png and an online.png and then upload these to your website.
The images need to be uploaded to /modules/mod_custom_transparent_yahoo_status/images/

Now you are Done !
Installation Instructions for Joomla 1.6
This isn't the place to explain how Joomla 1.6 works (and frankly I'm still learning all its foibles myself) so I'm only going to quickly run through installing my Yahoo! Messenger module and leave the more complex stuff for people infinitely more qualified than me to explain! ...
Here Goes ...
Download the zip file for Joomla 1.6 from my download section.
1) Login to the admin area of your Joomla 1.6 Website

2) Quickest route to installing modules etc is to click the big Extension Manager button

If you are already logged into your Joomla 1.6 Admin area, you can click on the Extensions menu link and then straight on the Extension Manager link
3) This opens up the upload facility ...

4) Browse for the module Zip file and click Upload & Install
5) If all goes well, then the file should install nicely...
6) Click on Extensions then Module Manager

7) On the Drop Down look for the module Customised (And Transparent) Yahoo Status Buttons then select it

8) To Edit the module, click on the linked text ...

9) You should see something like the following ...

10) The way you publish modules to different positions and pages has changed a little in Joomla 1.6, so I won't go into that, just the parameters for the module ... First, you can alter the way the module is rendered, by deciding whether you want it centered, left justified or right justified ... the basics really ...

11) You can also decide if you want to put some text before the button (Optional)

12) And some text after the button (though I messed up the original language file, the version to download has had this problem sorted out!)

13) For the Basic Parameters, the last thing you need to do is put in your Yahoo! Messenger ID ...

14) You can also tinker with the Advanced Parameters

15) Make sure you have enabled the module and set your positions and pages then click the Save or Save & Close button ...

16) Navigate to your website and check it works ...
